A Look Through the Lense is a short zine about the history of cameras. The first spread covers the first cameras in recorded history such as the camera obscura and the daguerreotype. The second spread covers film cameras such as the Kodak and the first Polaroid. The final spread covers digital cameras including the Casio QV-10 and the iPhone. Each of the members in our group created a spread of the zine, and we all worked on the front and back covers. We created the pages digitally in Photoshop, printed them on a laser printer in black & white, and printed them on a Risograph printer. Due to the limited color capabilities of the printer, we only chose two colors: black and red. The colors, photos, and typography we chose communicate a vintage style.

Process

Mood Board

We gathered collaged, photo-based, and textured imagery. We also searched for vintage typography with typewriter and scrapbook qualities.

Typeface Exploration

For the titles and headings, we searched for bold, uneven, collage-like fonts. For the body text, we wanted a serif typeface that resembles typewriter letters.
